Education - Too Important to Be Left to the State

7pm, Monday 29th April 2019
The Adam Smith Institute, 23 Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3DJ

In the UK approximately 7% of pupils are educated in independent schools, however this is not the case elsewhere in the world. In Australia the figure is 35%, and countries such as India and Nigeria have recently seen the emergence of low cost private schools which challenge the notion that the private sector is only for the rich. In 1973 the original Selsdon Manifesto advocated that the government "should extend the market in education because of the latter’s sensitivity to the consumer". Could there be a place for low cost private schools in the UK system? Sophie Sandor is a writer and documentary filmmaker. She is currently making a feature length documentary which examines why the poorest get the worst deal out of the UK's education system and explores potential solutions. We are delighted to be holding this event in association with the Adam Smith Institute This event is now at capacity. If you would like to attend let us know via our registration form and we'll email you should a place become available
