The Right to Buy Scheme - a Key to Social Mobility - Conference fringe event

12.15pm, Tuesday 6th October 2015
The Briton's Protection - 50 Great Bridgewater St, Manchester M1 5LE

Speakers JP Floru - Author, Candidate for Bermondsey and Southwark in 2015 Mark Littlewood - Director General of the Institute of Economic Affairs Guy Senior - Former LB Wandsworth Housing Spokesman. During the 1980s the Right to Buy Scheme enabled millions of people to gain a foothold on the housing ladder. In doing so it was a major factor in the success of the Conservative Party in that decade. The 2015 Conservative Manifesto included a pledge to revive the Scheme and to extend it to housing associations. Following the election victory this pledge was affirmed in the Queen's Speech. Right to Buy was a keystone of popular Conservatism under Margaret Thatcher. Could it be again under David Cameron? Come and join us to discuss it at our Conference Fringe this year. The Briton's Protection is located next door to Manchester Central - the main conference centre. It is just outside the secure zone, so entry is possible without a conference pass.
